Cissus javana - Rex Begonia Vine

Cissus javana

Mature vines have delicate, red stems and will reach up to 10' long and 1' wide. The narrowly ovate leaves have cordate bases and will reach up to 6" long and 4" wide. The upper surface of the foliage is dark green and mottled with silvery white while the lower surface is deep purple-red. The small, inconspicuous flowers are held in compound, axillary clusters. The fruits are rounded, 0.25" diameter, purple to black berries. Also known with Cissus discolor.

Begonia Basic Care: Easy/Medium

  • Watering: Keep it balanced—neither soaked nor parched. Let the top inch of soil dry out before watering again.
  • Light: Prefers bright to moderate indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch those tender leaves.
  • Soil/Drainage: Thrives in a peat-based, well-draining soil mix.
  • Temperature/Humidity: Loves moderate to high humidity. Average room temperature works but keep it away from frost.
